As the majesty of the starlit heavens give way to the azure dome… there is the dawn: the smoky -gray curtain slowly obscures my window on the cosmos… forcing me back into the world. This is not to say that the dawn is without it’s beauty but rather, it has lost it’s allure to me long ago. It was my time in the Army, during my youth, which forever tainted the dawn. Fear of the dark is the naive irrationality of a child whereas… fear of illumination is something only the military can instill.

Article 1, Section 8

“The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;”

I want an amendment to the constitution which prohibits the use of the words “General Welfare,” to be used as the sole justification for any legislation.

FCC approves XM-Sirius satellite radio merger

Under what constitutional authority does the FCC get off telling a Private, Encrypted, Satellite radio company what they can and can’t do? Possibly, one could make a weak case under the auspices of antitrust legislation but certainly, that would not be the FCC. The FCC has no business telling these companies anything. This is another example of overreaching, unconstitutional, run-away, federal entities who shouldn’t even exist in the first place.

Centrifugation (alone) is not the best way to make weapons-grade uranium. It wasn’t even feasible until the advent of modern day alloys which were both light enough and strong enough to withstand the forces involved in the process. Considering all of these things, it takes a lot of centrifuges and a lot of time to make enough substance (about a softball’s size), with enough purity (>90% 235-U), to be used as a weapon.

Iran has no problem diverting the resources to this end. If required, they can divert the entire GNP towards the process. Since it is no longer a secret, there is nothing slowing them down. As of now, they have 6000 IR-2, centrifuges running (so they say). There are many issues which can limit this process: The tremendous forces produced by spinning at this speed will limit the life-span of these devices. The vibrations, the stress to the bearings… everything is pushed to the limits of mechanical possibility. These challenges must each be dealt with. Depending on the number of pointers that Mr. Kahn sold them, depends on just how many hurdles they have left.

Even if they solve all of these problems… even if they devote the level of resources to these ends: the yield will be low. Maybe 1 weapon’s worth per year? In their hands, even 1 low yield weapon is enough.

I watched the Obama speech in Berlin… it was quite a well-orated, well-written speech. You never know how much of the candidate’s views are actually reflected in the wording (who wrote it?). I felt that it was well-received by the audience, which did not seem particularly German. I enjoyed it… to tell you the truth, up until a certain point. I liked how he appealed to the Europeans and I agree that we need to find a way to make up to them somehow. It seems as though he would be better in that regard than would his opponent. His stance on terrorism took a firm stance and elicited the help of the Europeans, which would probably be much more willing to follow his lead.

Where he lost me was on the economics. He invoked many similes which spoke to “lowering walls,” in terms of economic disparity. He took a decidedly global tact with regard to the etiology of strife and resentment… such that world animosity was the result of economic disparity, instead of ideology. That is the number one difference I have with the DNC, their view that economics are the primary instigators of world strife. That we have a duty to redistribute wealth on a global basis, in order to mitigate this animosity. That through this act, war and terrorism will be lessened. I do not agree. I don’t think terrorists really care about economics in the least.

The other big thing I noticed was his definition of freedom. He defined in the way FDR did: Freedom from want, freedom from fear, etc. That is, in my opinion, a very dubious definition. Those freedoms require intervention (big government) in order to counter-weight the ills of human nature: greed and violence (social/economic controls). This means to me that people are inherently greedy and violent… I think they are not. My definition would be closer to: freedom from lack of opportunities and freedom from fear, owing to a powerful, decisive, military to defend us. He (and the DNC) think in terms of global responsibility and I think in terms of national responsibility. I feel no particular responsibility to other nations, which make bad choices or have inferior philosophies. If asked, I will, through my extra-governmental affiliations, be happy to consider the worthiness of their requests. If they feel disparity and hatred because of that, then by all means, shed the philosophies which bind you, and labor diligently to create a society as good or possibly better than ours. I would encourage my charities to give to that cause.

FORMER NASA astronaut and moon-walker Dr Edgar Mitchell – a veteran of the Apollo 14 mission – has stunningly claimed aliens exist:

Do they?

Let’s see: You were an astronaut… let’s guess between 30 – 40 years ago. You retired from NASA in 1972… have you had access to classified information since then or is this all based on your 1972 access? Why don’t you give any details… aside from the fact that, “they look strange to us;” and “their technology is much more sophisticated.”

Wow! That is convincing evidence sir: look strange, more sophisticated. How about one little specific… say, their method of propulsion; capable velocity; the star system they came from; energy storage mechansim; life expectancy; something?

Mitchell’s interests include consciousness and paranormal phenomena

During the Apollo 14 flight he conducted private ESP experiments with his friends on Earth

In early 1973, he founded the nonprofit Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) to conduct and sponsor research into areas that mainstream science has found unproductive, including consciousness research and psychic events.

Mitchell says that a teenage remote healer who lives in Vancouver and uses the pseudonym Adam Dreamhealer, helped heal him of kidney cancer at a distance.

**can you say, “Koo-koo for Co-Co puffs?” Why does the press, Australian in this case, give him air time?  He is obviously, mentally/emotionally challenged.   George Norey/Art Bell have the perfect forum for him… on every night and I am sure they would be glad to have him on as often as he wished.

The love affair between the elite media and Obama is something which I’ve always laughed off as predictable, liberal-media bias. Every poll that they skew, every fluff piece which they write… all amounts to nothing in the end. Americans are not stupid, they see this for what it is. The press and media believe themselves more powerful than they are. I think that kind of power has rapidly dwindled since the 60’s. Especially with the advent of the blogosphere and alternative news. In this case however, I think the effects will be catastrophic if/when he loses.

Obama symbolizes the struggles of racism in America. He is being billed as the messiah, who, upon assuming the presidency will have erased the blight of slavery from our nation. The press also skews every poll and pads every survey… telling us that his victory is assured. If you really think about it, can he really win?

Obama is a first-term senator with absolutely no executive experience. He doesn’t even have one day of military service. He is up against someone who went to a military academy, served as an officer during war time. Has a silver and bronze star. Was a prisoner of the North Vietnamese for 5 years during which time he nearly died his wounds and was tortured… all for his country. He served as a member of congress for two terms, a senator since the early 80’s… heads multiple committees dealing with national security.

Presidental elections are played out state by state. Since Ronald Regan, the outcome of these state by state races have been fairly predictable. For the most part, recent elections have boiled down to two states, Florida and Ohio. Both have large numbers of electoral votes and nearly equal numbers of republicans and democrats. Florida population has been growing and no one really knows which way it will go this time.

Since there is so much symbolism attached to Obama’s victory, what will defeat mean? Will it mean that all the Red States are racist? Will it mean that the electoral college is inherently racist? If he loses big… will the be enough to light the fuse of civil unrest? What will be the symbolism of a huge Mondale-Style loss? That is the trouble with this kind of beatification… martyrdom.

If I were a conspiracy theorist, I would suggest that this is a deliberate setup for failure. The forces of Marxism are playing this strait out of the communist manifesto…. in order to incite the necessary revolution of the proletariat. I am not a conspiracy kook… and I don’t think it is as deliberate as all that, however the outcome might be similar.

Is see it as a no win situation: if he does win, we are stuck with a very liberal, inexperienced man leading the country. If he looses, we will have to deal with the inverse of all the symbolism that the media attributed to his victory… further dividing a divided nation.

Here is a TRUE story  See: http://www.snopes.com/politics/war/sendler.asp

I am sure you Climate Change kooks don’t get it.

There recently was a death of a 98 year old lady named Irena.
During WWII, Iliana, got permission to work in the Warsaw Ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist.
She had an ulterior motive…
She KNEW what the Nazi’s plans were for the Jews, (being German).
Iliana smuggled infants out in the bottom of her tool box she carried, and she carried in the back of her truck a Burlap sack, (for larger kids).
She also had a dog in the back, that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in, and out of the ghetto.
The soldiers of course wanted nothing to do with the dog, and the barking covered the kids/infants noises.
During her time and course of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants.
She was caught, and the Nazi’s broke both her legs, and arms, and beat her severely.
Iliana kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out, and kept them in a glass jar, buried under a tree in her back yard.
After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived it, and reunited the family.
Most of course had been gassed.
Those kids she helped got placed into foster family homes, or adopted.
Last year Iliana was up for the Nobel Peace Prize….
She LOST.
Al Gore won, for a slide show on Global Warming.

**On a personal note:   For those of you not born yet, sleeping, forgot or just don’t get these political things… THe Nobel Prize “Comission,” awarded Al Gore the prize, not for his work on climate change, but rather to send George W. Bush, the conservatives and anyone potically right of Al Gore (in the US)… a clear message as to their feelings about our “IMPERIALISM,” and to pressure us give MORE MONEY to the UN, and sign TREATIES becuase they HATE us (but want our money).  Don’t think that they like Al Gore either… he is only the lesser of that which they dispise.  If he wasn’t a thorn in W’s side, they would have spit on his application.

From my minimal amount of research and simply thinking through what must be happening to gas inclusions in the depths of the ice sheets, I have come up with some general thoughts. The graphs we all see which depict the temperature and CO2 levels in the historic atmosphere, all show a dramatic increase as you approach the surface (representing the most recent depositions). Many, mostly political forces, insist that this represents the true nature of the atmosphere and thus, corresponds with the industrial revolution and human activity. There must be other possibilities.

Certainly there are differences in temperature, pressure, state/phase, fauna and contaminants. In addition, there must be variables introduced by the drilling process itself. Are these gas bubbles truly closed systems? Even the smallest amounts of disturbance in the carbon content will be more and more significant with increasing time. Prove to me that these bubbles are closed systems and truly representative of the atmospheric conditions at the times for which they are said to represent… I read on:

Here is a real scientist who has been there and done that… and isn’t buying it:

http://www.warwickhughes.com/icecore/

It’s not that ice-core researchers don’t try and control the variables. There are numerous articles on the painstaking methods which are used. They even let the ice cores sit for at least a year before they touch them in order to make the bubbles less brittle. The composition of the fluids used to prevent the ice from backfilling the hole are considered and various mixtures have been toyed with. Here is a list I found on http://wapedia.mobi/en/Ice_core which speaks to some of the controls:

  • Keeping ice well below the freezing point.

    • At Greenland and Antarctic sites, temperature is maintained by having storage and work areas under the snow/ice surface.

    • At GISP2, cores were never allowed to rise above -15 °C, partly to prevent microcracks from forming and allowing present-day air to contaminate the fossil air trapped in the ice fabric, and partly to inhibit recrystallization of the ice structure.

  • Wearing special clean suits over cold weather clothing.

  • Mittens or gloves.

  • Filtered respirators.

  • Plastic bags, often polyethylene, around ice cores. Some drill barrels include a liner.

  • Proper cleaning of tools and laboratory equipment.

  • Use of laminar-flow bench to isolate core from room particulates.

Here is an interesting bit of information:

  1. CO2 from fossil-fuel or biomass burning is relatively depleted in 13C. See Friedli et al., 1986.
  • This kind of study is exactly the sort of information which will raise my confidence.

I must stop here and opine: There is plenty of great science being done there. The ice-core chemistry is very comprehensive and the variables, though numerous and complex, are being accounted for. However, this is not settled science. There are many, many variables which are still under debate as well as their implications. The problem I have with all of this climate change vitriol is that politicians are contaminating science with their crap. Let these scientists work out their problems and debate without the fear of left-winged, vicious attack. Just because there are political elements that want this to be true and want drastic sociological changes… does not mean it is helpful to involve themselves in the valid discourse of science. Nothing which comes from this field can be evaluated on it’s merits… everything must be viewed in the context of politics. Everything is suspect now. How can I trust that scientists have felt comfortable enough to bring valid dissent in this atmosphere? (no pun intended). You crazy leftists have tarnished the work of people who have devoted their lives to the pursuit of science… hijacked the work of others to your own ends. I don’t even want to waste time on this… it is all too convoluted now. I can’t make heads or tails on what is political crap and what is science. There is no way to know if valid dissent is being stifled or intimidated. I am done with this subject.

I am watching, The Deadliest Catch marathon on Discovery. I am dumbfounded by the sheer number of ways to “eat it,” at this job. I started jotting down the unique ways to die on a crab boat:

  1. Falling while untying the pots from the deck… either into the water or onto the deck.
  2. Being swept off the deck by a wave: life expectancy 10 minutes.
  3. Being crushed by a falling pot.
  4. Being crushed by a sliding pot.
  5. Boat being capsized by a rouge wave, sinking boat or slamming you into bulkheads.
  6. Ice falling on your head or crushing you.
  7. Ice building on the deck enough to roll the boat.
  8. Getting tangled in the lines as the pot is launched… dragging you to bottom.
  9. Getting pulled off the side into the water: life expectancy 10 minutes
  10. Bridal breaks, hook whips into someones head.
  11. Bridal breaks, uncoiled lines drag someone over the side.
  12. Line drops through drain hole and gets sucked into propeller, pot crushes crew.
  13. Fish chopper sucks your arm into gears.
  14. Get clothes or arm stuck in hoist gear.
  15. Slip on ice, breaking skull
  16. Getting caught in ice pack, breaching hull, sinking ship.
  17. Crashing into ice flow/iceberg sinking ship or slamming you into bulkhead.
  18. Ice flow pushing boat into shawl or rocks, sinking boat.
  19. Tsunami while near shore.
  20. Electrical or other fire.
